JACKIE RYAN
Read what the critics say about Jackie Ryan and the anticipation of seeing her and hearing her sing just might make your pulse quicken. Much of the praise came after the release of her 2007 CD, You and the Night and the Music, featuring tenor saxophonist Red Holloway, pianist Tamir Hendelman and Jeff Hamilton on drums. JazzTimes was ecstatic saying the album "confirms Ryan's status as one of the outstanding jazz vocalists of her generation and, quite possibly, of all time. She is the thoroughbred vocal equivalent of the Triple Crown, rivaling the dexterous sass of Sarah Vaughan, the instinctive smarts of Carmen McRae and the scintillating verve of Diana Krall." Ryan is extraordinarily popular wherever she performs. She spent eight years at the famed Ronnie Scott's Club in London and did sell-out performances at Dizzy's Club at New York's Lincoln Center, the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, and Yoshi's in San Francisco.

CLAUDIO RODITI
Roditi came to Boston in 1970 from his native Brazil via Mexico. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and became musically influenced by Clifford Brown and Lee Morgan. Roditi later joined the faculty of the School of Contemporary Music, meanwhile doing club and concert performances. In 1976 he moved to New York, and quickly broke into the local circuit, performing and recording with Joe Henderson, Charlie Rouse, Herbie Mann, Tito Puente, McCoy Tyner, Horace Silver and Paquito D'Rivera. Roditi established himself as a formidable jazz figure. Since 1989, he has traveled frequently as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. For a while, he also toured with The Jazz Masters, a Gillespie tribute group led by Slide Hampton. Roditi has recorded 16 critically acclaimed albums as a leader since 1984, and Brazilliance X 4 was nominated for a Grammy Award as best Latin jazz album in 2010. In 1995, his Symphonic Bossa Nova recording also garnered a Grammy nomination.

ANGELA HAGENBACH
Kansas City singer/songwriter Angela Hagenbach discovered Sarah Vaughan in 1989. Since then, her soulful interpretation and phrasing has been favorably compared to Vaughan's and Shirley Horn's. However, she is best known for her creative, phrase-oriented style and is widely regarded as a master interpreter of great songs written by everyone from Duke Ellington to Antonio Carlos Jobim. She has worked and recorded with renowned jazzmen such as Clark Terry and Jimmy Heath. Two of Hagenbach's compositions are featured in Last Will, a 2010 movie Starring Tom Berenger and Tatum O'Neal. Hagenbach was chosen twice to represent the United States as a jazz ambassador to the world. She is considered one of the top jazz singers of Brazilian heritage based in a Midwestern metropolitan city. Johnny Mandel perhaps said it best: She "sings with perfect taste and sounds like no one else."

DAVE BENNETT QUARTET
plays classics from the swing era
Only 27 years old, Dave Bennett established himself the last five years as America's premier interpreter of Benny Goodman, emulating his hero's style and sound while demonstrating awesome technique. He has recorded with three of Goodman's famous band leaders - Bucky Pizzarelli, Dick Hyman and Peter Appleyard. All three endorse Bennett as "the closest ever to Benny Goodman." To complete the image, Bennett wears swing era attire, complete with spats. A second major influence on his music is the New Orleans great Pete Fountain. Offstage, Bennett plays boogie woogie piano and electric guitar, and sings a bit. He is a devotee of various pop music forms. A remarkable, perhaps even unique, musical talent, Bennett is one of the finest jazz clarinetists today. Joining Bennett this evening is Randy Morris on piano, Mark Neuenschwander on bass and Dick Maley on drums.
